Largest photovoltaic installation in Kronshagen wired to the grid

An official opening ceremony was conducted on 24 May for the largest photovoltaic installation in the Kronshagen district. The solar power plant is located on Albert-Schweitzer-Strasse on the roof of a car park belonging to FRANK Siedlungsbaugesellschaft mbH & Co. KG. Balticsolar has installed 241 photovoltaic modules on a steel construction above the car park, covering an area of 2,300 square metres.

The installation has been feeding electricity into the grid operated by the local energy supplier, VBK, since the beginning of May. With a maximum output of around 55 kilowatt-peak, the system will produce about 50,000 kilowatt hours of electricity a year. That is enough to completely supply eleven four-person households with power for the whole year.

‘The combination of car park and solar energy is perfect. Instead of installing the PV modules on farmland and fields, we use the roof of our car park and at the same time provide weather protection for the cars and mobile homes parked there,’ says Hans-Jürgen Schauenburg happily about the positive effect of the installation. ‘We very much welcome the fact that FRANK is making a contribution to the energy revolution with this ecological showcase project and hope that other private investors come forward wanting to get involved with generating solar energy in Kronshagen,’ adds council leader, Susanne Dannenberg. ‘As an energy supplier, it is in our interest to offer our customers green electricity. The solar car park has brought us a big step closer to this objective,’ says Joachim Kledtke, managing director at VBK. ‘An increasing number of companies are opting for photovoltaic technology, which is little wonder when you look at the many benefits – from state-guaranteed feed-in tariffs to encouraging people to produce their own electricity,’ said Andreas Höchst, founder and joint managing director at Balticsolar.
